Meet The Factory, Soft Goods Detroit
The factory behind the 100% Made In America MuskOx Holden Crew
Located on Holden Street in Detroit's Northwest Goldberg neighborhood, Soft Goods Detroit helped us manufacture The Holden Crew, a 100% Made in America sweatshirt. MuskOx handled the garment design and fabric sourcing, and their team executed on the entire end-to-end manufacturing process.
Known nationally for classic Americana sportswear including tees, sweatshirts, and hats, their clothing development keeps a traditional cut and vibe perfect for the MuskOx brand, i.e. timeless, everyday sportswear without crazy features. Independently owned, Josh York, and his 10 person team stay true to the transparent and ethical factory model which was important to us when making the first Made in America MuskOx piece that has Detroit in its DNA.
By 2021 Soft Goods Detroit will be 100% locally sourced, own their entire manufacturing process of all produced goods leaving their doors, and will be sustainably dying fabrics, as garment dying has grown to be one of the most wasteful processes within the fashion industry.
A little background about the owner, Josh York. Josh started making shirts when he was 10 years old out of this parents basement in Livonia, MI. He when to Michigan State University (MSU), where he launched the early version of his company, making shirts and merch for bands, sports teams, and alike. Fun fact, both Josh and Brad, founder of MuskOx were in the same MSU fraternity... Once Josh graduated, he landed a job as a production manager at Abercrombie & Fitch, and a year later, quit to start a garment factory in his parents' basement. In 2018, once the equipment and operation grew too large for their basement, Josh moved his factory to Detroit, and Soft Goods Detroit began to form as we know it.
